Jakarta, September 20, 2026 — PT SUCOFINDO (PERSERO) received the "Excellence in Integrated Halal Auditing and Laboratory Assurance" award during the grand finale of the Indonesia Halal Awards 2026, organized by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) as part of The 5th Summit of Halal-20 (H20), on Sunday (Sep 20) at the Trans Hotel Jakarta. This award places SUCOFINDO among the State-Owned Enterprise cluster recipients recognized for their ability to integrate audit-based halal inspections with accredited laboratory testing and digital systems within a unified service.
The award was presented following a multi-layered judging process by the Indonesia Halal Awards 2026 jury, which comprised four cross-competency experts. The panel of judges consisted of Prof. Dr. apt. Zilhadia, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta for the domain of halal science, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and raw materials; Prof. Dr. Istianingsih Sastrodiharjo, SE., M.S.Ak., Professor at Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya for the domain of corporate governance, business ethics, and organizational performance; Fertiana Santy, S.Kep., Ns., MPPM, CM, Ph.D., Director of Partnerships and Cooperation at BPJPH Republic Island for the domain of regulators and halal partnerships; and Drs. Arief Hidayat Thamrin, M.M., Data Research Coordinator and CEO of Salutee, for the domain of research data methodology and awards management.
In the judging considerations, SUCOFINDO was deemed to possess a distinct advantage that sets it apart from other halal inspection agencies: the seamless blend of auditor competency, accredited laboratories, and digital systems reinforcing one another within a single service workflow. As Indonesia's first inspection company, established on October 22, 1956, SUCOFINDO brings a mature technical foundation to the national halal certification ecosystem. This institutional framework is supported by 130 BNSP-certified halal auditors registered with BPJPH. SUCOFINDO is also equipped with 93 service points spread across Indonesia and a network of 68 laboratories.
The jury particularly highlighted SUCOFINDO's halal laboratory capabilities, which are accredited under ISO/IEC 17025. This laboratory utilizes Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR) technology, which differs from conventional PCR or standard Real-Time PCR (qPCR). Through ddPCR technology, test samples are partitioned into thousands of microscopic droplets, making porcine DNA testing significantly more accurate.
In addition, SUCOFINDO's food laboratory—which features alcohol content determination testing for beverage products—and its pharmaceutical laboratory—which features water permeability testing for pharmaceutical products—have also been accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 to support halal certification audits. This combination of field audits and molecular testing positions SUCOFINDO uniquely, moving beyond awards based purely on branch counts or inspection volumes, as this recognition evaluates the technical depth of inspections grounded in scientific evidence.
The continuity of SUCOFINDO's institutional status also served as a strong foundational consideration. BPJPH designated SUCOFINDO as a Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) through Decree Number 117 of 2020, followed by its qualification as a Main Halal Inspection Agency (LPH Utama) on February 17, 2023, and the certificate for the addition of LPH scope on July 2, 2025. Covering national and international scopes referencing ISO/IEC 17065, this enhances SUCOFINDO's capability to audit the entire scope of products mandatorily requiring halal certification. This Main LPH status complements SUCOFINDO's existing suite of management standard accreditations, including ISO/IEC 17025 for laboratories and ISO 37001 for anti-bribery management systems.
Digital innovation further reinforced the award's basis. SUCOFINDO developed the SAHIH application (Halal Application and Halal Information System), which is automatically linked with SIHALAL, the official BPJPH system for business actors submitting halal certification applications. SAHIH manages the inspection data workflow ranging from document audits, field audits, and laboratory testing when required, to the compilation of LPH reports. This digital integration minimizes duplicate data entry on internal systems and accelerates the inspection process.
SUCOFINDO’s implementation portfolio across various segments also serves as tangible proof of the agency's execution capability. SUCOFINDO has conducted halal inspections for the JCO Indonesia outlet network, assisted 50 MSMEs under Pertamina's partnership program in 2023, inspected logistics facilities for PT Mitsui-Soko Indonesia in 2024, and carried out halal inspection programs for the DPR RI (House of Representatives) canteen and Tuniang Resto in Bali. This cross-segment portfolio demonstrates SUCOFINDO's ability to apply halal inspections across diverse types of business entities, ranging from national brands and MSMEs to logistics service providers and food service establishments.
Prof. Dr. apt. Zilhadia, M.Si., Dean of FIKES UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and a member of the Indonesia Halal Awards 2026 jury, shared her perspective on SUCOFINDO being selected as an award recipient.
"What places SUCOFINDO in this category is its ability to bridge two competencies that often operate separately in many institutions: document- and field-based halal audits combined with laboratory-based scientific verification. In contemporary halal industries, certain situations arise where visual and documentary inspections alone are not sufficient, such as when there is suspicion of cross-contamination in raw materials or when products contain critical parameters like alcohol and animal derivatives. At that exact point, the laboratory becomes the decision maker," said Prof. Zilhadia.
"The use of Droplet Digital PCR technology for molecular detection was also an element considered by the jury. This method provides higher precision compared to conventional PCR in detecting trace contamination at the molecular level. The ability to introduce technology of this caliber into the national halal certification ecosystem is a contribution well worth recognizing in the inspection integrity and laboratory assurance category," she added.
PT SUCOFINDO (PERSERO) Commercial Director Agus Permadi stated on the occasion that, "This award serves as a momentum and motivation for SUCOFINDO's Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) to remain committed to supporting and assisting business actors and industries in implementing halal standards in accordance with applicable regulations. This support is part of SUCOFINDO's efforts to help business actors ensure product halal compliance, while enhancing consumer trust and product competitiveness in domestic and global markets," said Agus Permadi.
Agus Permadi added that through the integration of halal inspection services and laboratory capabilities, SUCOFINDO is ready to act as a partner for business actors and industries in fulfilling halal requirements accurately, transparently, and in compliance with regulations. Thus, halal implementation not only fulfills regulatory obligations but also serves as added value to strengthen consumer trust and open opportunities for Indonesian products to compete in an increasingly broad market.
"Through these roles, capacities, and capabilities, SUCOFINDO continues to strengthen its contribution in building a credible, high-quality, and competitive halal ecosystem, while supporting Indonesian business actors to grow and thrive amidst expanding halal product market opportunities," concluded Agus Permadi.
